Munich 2022: European Championships

A new challenge was accepted right after my last experience in Muscat 22. This time we played at home and everything was even a little more special, not only because of the responsibility over the anti-doping programme of the Munich 2022 European Championships, in which 9 different sports took part, but also because of the amount of resources and time required for a sports event of such magnitude.

Without doubt, an interesting, full of experiences project and good times for all the people from Professional Worldwide Controls (PWC) while working side by side with the National Anti-Doping Agency of Germany (NADA), the main responsible anti-doping members of the participating International Federations and the International Testing Agency (ITA).

As already mentioned, 9 sports and their International Federations were part of the event:

   · Athletics – World Athletics (WA)
   · Cycling – Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI)
   · TriathlonWorld Triathlon (WT)
   · Rowing – World Rowing (WR)
   · Table Tennis – International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF)
   · Gymnastics – Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG)
   · Volleyball – Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB)
   · Sport Climbing – International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC)
   · Canoe – International Canoe Federation (ICF)

On this occasion, being able to carry out the role of Anti-Doping Testing Program Coordinator gave me the chance to increase my experience in a paralel development path within PWC. This was my first multi-sport event, but hopefully it will not be the last one.

Summary

  • 08-21/08/2022

Munich 2022 European Championships was an impressive and unique sports event: 9 different sports took part of the multi-sport championships. I had the opportunity to lead the DCO anti-doping workforce and coordinating the whole testing program together with my colleagues from PWC.
