International Standard for the Prohibited List
This document is one of the eight International Standards that must be complied with by all sports organizations that are signatories of the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC).
The ‘Prohibited List’ identifies the substances and methods which are prohibited at all times, In-Competition (IC) or in particular sports. Additionally, the International Standard for the Prohibited List 2022 is structured as follows:
- S0 Non-Approved substances
- S1 Anabolic agents
- S2 Peptide hormones, growth factors, related substances, and mimetics
- S3 Beta-2 agonists
- S4 Hormone and metabolic modulators
- S5 Diuretics and masking agents
- M1 Manipulation of Blood and Blood components
- M2 Chemical and physical manipulation
- M3 Gene and Cell doping
- S6 Stimulants
- S7 Narcotics
- S8 Cannabinoids
- S9 Glucocorticoids

This document is updated every year and the official text shall be maintained by WADA and shall be published in English and French.
It is very important for the athlete or any other support personnel to be familiar with this document in order to avoid inadvertent doping.
The principle of strict liability is a legal doctrine that holds a party responsible for their actions, without the plaintiff having to prove negligence or fault. This applies to the athlete at any time, as he/she is the ultimately responsible for any banned substance found in his/her body.
